Koh Tao has established itself as one of the premier places in the world to do your scuba diving instructor training. For years now, thousands of successful diving instructors completed their instructor training in Koh Tao, before either staying on the island or continuing their careers elsewhere in the world.

In 2006, Phoenix Divers became an SSI Instructor Training Facility with Neil Farmer as their Instructor Trainer. Our excellent facilities have made Phoenix Divers SSI's first choice for conducting Instructor Evaluations, giving our instructor candidates the edge over those from other facilities.

Neil, from Scotland, has lived and worked in Koh Tao for years. He runs Phoenix's Instructor and Dive Control Specialist (Dive Master & Assistant Instructor) Training programs. He also works as an Instructor Certifier for SSI Thailand.

More than a Divemaster - the Dive Control Specialist

The Dive Control Specialist course combines the divemaster and assistant instructor courses, giving you the edge over divemasters and is the first step on the ladder to becoming a scuba diving instructor.

As part of your professional training, most interns choose to supplement their professional training with Specialty Training.

The Instructor Training Course

SSI's Instructor Training Course (ITC) is designed to make you a competent and confident Instructor. Using of a wide range of teaching techniques, including classroom presentations, water presentations, mini exams and study guides, the ITC will prepare you fully to work in this exciting industry.

Instructor Crossovers

If you're already an instructor and are looking to become an SSI Instructor, it couldn't be easier - you can cross over at your current level, allowing you to teach the same specialties you can already teach. If you're a new instructor, why not cross over and upgrade to the Advanced Open Water Instructor level and get all your favourite specialties at the same time?

Instructor Upgrades

If you want to be able to teach Specialties, Neil can conduct Upgrade Seminars for every Specialty Instructor rating and Dive Control Specialist Instructor (Staff Instructor) courses and will put together a package to suit you.
